Life Lessons

Life Skills

When I think of life skills I want to know and master, there are a few that come to mind.  How to change the engine in my truck, and how to fly a plane are some that I aspire to know.

There is one skill tho that all men need to master; the ability to open the Word of God and speak from it.  This skill is so important, yet I am afraid many men spend there time learning other skills sets and neglect this one.

How good of a man would you be if you knew how to fly a plane, remove the engine from your truck and deliver an impressive speech, but could not open the Bible and teach others from it?

I spent time with several young men for CST (Challenge Staff Training) this past week.  We put them through a variety of test to gauge their mental, physical and spiritual strengths.  After it was all said and done the greatest display of strength was observing them give a devotion from the Bible.

It was inspiring to see young men do what many grown men could not do.  Here was the youth leading in what all men should do; teaching from the Scriptures.  The words they spoke were true and revealed what was in their heart.  They spoke of faith, duty, hardship, worship, love and obedience.

Men, God has entrusted us with much responsibility.  We must not neglect the Scriptures in our manly pursuits. For truly, that is the foundation of manhood.

I encourage you to learn new things and bravely be what God has put in your heart.  In that process do not neglect the Scriptures and the ability to teach others from them.  We need more men like those from CST who have the courage to speak from the  Bible and change lives through His Word.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
