Blown Away...by the Gospel

Blown Away . . . by the Gospel.

This project was inspired by the photo “Blown away” by Steven Steigman. I stumbled upon it recently and I wondered what it was that the guy (Jack) in the picture was “Blown away” by? After doing some research I discovered, he was blown away by the Hitachi Maxell stereo. Cool I guess.

I then began to think of what I am “Blown away” by: music, athleticism, beauty. However then I realized the one thing that blows everything else away is God, and what he has done for a wretch like me. I began to ponder what happened before and after “Jack” was blown away by the Hitachi Maxwell stereo? Was he always blown away by the stereo, did it ever stop?

Thinking about what happens before and after a sinner is “Blown away” by the Gospel is what began this project. Before God blows us away, we are dead in our trespasses and sins and don’t give a hoot about God. But then God revives us and shines his resuscitating light into our dark lives and blows us away with his Glory and Grace!

He then gives us a desire to know Him more, to seek him, and be more and more blown away by Him.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world . . .” Ephesians 2:1-2

One aspect I felt like I failed to capture in this picture is the fact that the sinner pictured is NOT asleep, he is DEAD! He can’t wake up any more than that lamp can turn its self on.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were DEAD in our transgressions, made us ALIVE together with Christ,” Ephesians 2:4-5

so that in ages to come he might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7
