Good Men need to DO

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Edmund Burke

Mr Burke has set the record straight.  We need to act.  Today's blog will provide a foundation from which our actions will be stabilized.

Young Men, in our last blog post we briefly discussed the soul and the need to care for it.

1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Here we know that we are a spirit being.  We have a soul.  We live in a body.

Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

God cares for your soul.  Why?  I figure our spiritual well being is more important.  However, the bible let's us know that God values the Human Soul.  Let's take a look.
The SPIRIT will live for eternity in either heaven or hell.
The SOUL is the item that dictates the destination.  Our soul is comprised of our mind, our will, and our emotions.  We humans have the ability to reason, to dream, to imagine, to hate, to love, to be sad, or excited.  These lead us into situations that are good at time.  Other time these leading are unhealthy or even  detrimental.  Now you can see why God is concerned with our thinking, our feelings, and our determination.  He offers us the opportunity to partner with Him to get our soul in great shape so that we can enjoy eternity with Him.  This blog will focus on one aspect of our soul: the emotions.
Our emotions are our earthly desires.  God designed us.  We are human.  We have emotions.  Our feelings are to be expressed.  They are to be felt.  We need not be ashamed of how we feel.  Our emotions empower us to communicate well with other humans.  However, according to information we glean from Ephesians we need to be cautious at times.  Let's have a look.

EPHESIANS 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

This sixth chapter of Ephesians is describing the armor of God and its uses.  The very first piece of armor is the belt of truth.  You may be asking, "What does any of this have to do with my soul?"  We will get to that.  Initially we need to understand some relationships.  Stay with me while we lay the ground work together.

Armor in the general sense is designed to protect the human being during armed combat.  The armor of God is designed to protect the christian so that the christian can be spiritually effective in this earth.  We know one of our directives in this life is to bring Gods will to this earth.  We will discuss this topic in a future blog post.  For now, you need to be aware that you must have supernatural protection in order to do you job well.  Remember life is not about you.  Jesus taught us that we need to invest our life serving others.  Mr Burke's remark at the start of this blog urges us to action...for the good of others.

This concept of action bring us back to our emotions and the belt.  When it comes time to take action or make decisions, we must put away our emotions.  Our soul is a wonderful part of our being.  God created us in a wonder fashion.  However, he also has placed within our directives cautions and procedures.  This one verse in the middle of Ephesians chapter six in one such procedure.  Our emotions are healthy for us.  They are useful.  However, when it is time to make decisions or take action we must not use our emotions as a tool to get the job done.  We are instructed to gird our loins with truth.  The term "loin" refers to our emotions.  The verb "gird" means to restrict, to hold back, to stabilize.  From this basic investigation we know we are to separate our feelings about a situation from the action necessary to deal with the problem.  What then are we to use when solving problems.  The truth is what we have used to bind the emotions.  therefore we must use the truth to solve dilemmas.  When it is time to take action or make decisions, ask yourself, "what is the truth in this situation?"  The truth will provide the direction toward repair, correction, help, assistance, solution.

Example:  Ryan has just embarrassed Jack.  Jack wants to retaliate.  Jack feels threatened.   However, Jack puts away that emotion and discovers to truth of the situation.

Young men, you need to take action often.  God has placed you on this earth where you are.  He has place you here at this time.  He has placed you with those around you.  None of this is by accident or out of His control.  Know, He needs to impact this place, these people, right now.  He is looking to use you.

When you are called to take action and/or make a decision, find out what the biblical truths are that surround this situation.  God will open your eye so that you can see things from His point of view.  God will open your ears so that you can hear what He hears.  God will share His thoughts with you, if you will allow Him to restore your soul.

Hit the comments tab.  Let us know what concepts you would like to investigate with biblical truths.

Next week we will look at some applicable scriptures on which to meditate so we can be prepared for action.
